Cycles

An appreciation of the natural order of things - combined with an understanding of our role within this order has allowed man to develop agriculture into the science it is today.

Traditional crop rotational schemes which were developed in Europe during Medieval times still provide the basis of the modern arable farm planting system. The trick is to keep the soils nutrient level at a good level to provide a healthy, sustainable medium in which to produce crops.

Each individual crop has a different nutritional requirement, which is why growing a different crop on a year by year basis helps not only to improve the yield of crop, but also the biodiversity of the whole farm.

Field margins bordering rotational fields also benefit from such diversity, providing healthy, sustainable habitats for grasses, wild flowers and a multitude of insect life - Which in turn encourages bird and mammal activity within the hedgerow environments.

The Fenton Centre provides an opportunity to visit and see the interactive cycles of the natural environment at first hand, we hope to see you soon.
